FINALLY, SOMEBODY WROTE A 50 PAGE MCR FANZINE AND IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE ME!!!
Straight outta California, Adrian H. brings us a comprehensive look at My Chemical Romance--their impact, their drama (not so much in-band as THE SENSE OF THE DRAMA, y'know, this is a band firmly devoted to all-encompassing ERAS that meshed together visuals/music/outfits and OTT performances to FLING ALL OF US TEENAGERS-AT-THE-TIME INTO A FRENZIED BLOODY PIT OF EMOTION), their fashion statements, lyrics, queer subtext (and...overtext? obvioustext??), fan boards, etc etc and what it all meant to one weird teen from the west coast.
Equal parts personal and anthropological, this zine is a fantastic MS Paint-style romp through My Chem history that touches on identity, the emo death cult, finding solace in fanhood, connecting with your family through a shared love of overdramatic rock music, masculinity/gender/what any of that means anyway, and finding beauty in what sometimes devolved into just unregulated screaming. It's a love letter to the myspace era and endlessly fascinating to read as a fan--everybody's headcanons and hot takes are different, and getting to read Adrian's (and their experiences) launched me back to the conspiratorial days of dissecting live performance photos over AIM with my best friends. I cried. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THESE FEELINGS.
Heartfelt, moving, perfect, lo-fi. Just go for it.
This zine is half size (5.5" x 8.5"), 50 pages, typed, photocopied. Full color "cheesecake" cardstock covers. Black and white interior.
